It also allows you to achieve much nicer looking bokeh when blurring out your background, whereas a lens with less blades will often produce harsher, more polygonal bokeh. A smaller aperture reduces the amount of light reaching the sensor. This is important in bright conditions where a wider aperture could result in your image being overexposed. Another advantage is that with a smaller aperture you get a greater depth of field, and can keep all of the image in focus.
Similar to the number of aperture blades, rounded blades affect the way the light gets through to the sensor. Rounded blades, often only found on more expensive lenses, improve the appearance of the out-of-focus areas. This allows you to attain better, softer looking bokeh in your photos.

The problem with this kind of lenses is the sharpness from mm to mm and I was very disappointed with Beside, the autofocus is very slow.
I dediced to buy it and I very satisfied with image quality and focus speed. It is much more expensive, though. But if you don't want to spend that much, I would consider other options like tamron VC or even nikkor DX version.

The may be sharper because extending the reasoning often given for why prime lenses are superior it is easier to construct a quality lens in a narrower zoom range.

What a trooper it is. Edited by square trousers member 9 years ago. I've owned both and they're both very good lenses. The only real difference I notices was the AF, which has been mentioned. The would hunt a little in low light and the is marginally quicker in overall. The build quality of the is better but on the flip side it's also slightly heavier, not by a great deal though.
Image quality and bokeh on them both is very good, the bokeh is silky smooth on either lens. I sold my and opted to keep the purely because it suits my needs more, but I'd be happy to have either.
