Once you have parked, please enter the Gallery via the Manton Entrance, approximately meters from the parking spaces. Today, the Tate Britain is perhaps best known for its collection of work by the J. Turner and other famous British painters. The front part of the Tate Britain was designed by Sidney R. Smith, with key features including a classical portico and dome, while John Russell Pope outlined the plans for the central sculpture gallery. One of the highlights of the building is the Clore Gallery, which is renowned for its postmodern architecture. Between and , a major renovation project was undertaken within the Tate Britain, partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Tate members.
In addition to the various galleries and display spaces, the Tate Britain offers a library, archive, reading rooms, a members room, administration offices, a restaurant and cafe. Special events — including live demonstrations — take place at the gallery during the course of the year. There are two entrances to the Gallery: The North Entrance is situated either side of the chimney and is reached via the river walkway. Access is directly to Level 2 from which there are lifts and staircase to all floors.
Entry to the Gallery is via a ramp which extends down into the Turbine Hall and Level 1. A flight of steps with a handrail runs alongside the length of the ramp. Seating Benches can be found in a number of galleries. Additional seating is provided in the Turbine Hall and concourses and in the surrounding landscape. Viewing stools can be picked up from the concourses on Levels 3, 4 and 5. Telephones Card and Cash pay phones are situated on Levels 1 and 2 under the staircase.
